Project Overview
The project NaFi-Get-Aus investigates how sustainable financial literacy can be effectively embedded in vocational education and training (VET). In Germany, corresponding concepts are still lacking – particularly in the industrial-technical sector. By sustainable financial literacy, we mean the combination of classical financial competences with aspects of ecological responsibility, social responsibility, and corporate responsibility. The goal is to consider financial decisions not only from an individual perspective but also in terms of their impact on the environment, society, and the economy.
For orientation, we draw on recognized reference frameworks, such as the OECD Competence Framework for Financial Literacy and the new standard training element on “sustainability,” which has been integrated into all modernized and newly developed training regulations in Germany since 2021.
The areas with the individual learning units and the TTT are piloted, tested in classroom practice, and systematically evaluated. In this process, we also collect additional scientific data and findings that show how sustainable financial literacy works and which conditions are crucial for its successful implementation in vocational education and training. In this way, NaFi-Get-Aus contributes not only to the development of practice-oriented materials but also to the scientific study of sustainable financial literacy.
The project is funded under the BMBF funding line “Research on Financial Literacy.” The aim of this funding line is to improve the research and data basis on financial literacy in Germany and to derive practice-oriented measures for different stages of education. In this way, financial literacy in Germany is to be strengthened on an evidence-based basis and contribute to more educational equity and participation in the long term.
